Farm Field Days
October 7 & 8, 2008
Farm Field Days is coming up soon and we
are busy planning another great event for Prince Williams' fourth graders.
We will once again bring the farm to
the students for an up-close and personal look at farm animals, crops,
soil, trees, organic farming, horse power to high tech, and regions of
Virginia.
We can not host this event without our
volunteers; we greatly appreciate their support. We have
volunteer opportunities available and would love to hear from you.

“Moo!”
“Oink, oink” “Cluck, cluck!” “Baaaaa!” “Hee-haw!” Prince William
Soil and Water Conservation District hosted the popular and successful
Farm Field Days for fourth graders on October 16 and 17. 1,500 students
and 70 teachers from schools in Prince William County and the City of
Manassas participated in the fun at the Prince William Fairgrounds.
Our wonderful volunteers help make this event happen each
year. We have help from many of our partner agencies including
Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District, John Marshall
Soil and Water District, Natural Conservation Resources Service,
Department of Conservation and Recreation, Farm Bureau, Virginia
Department of Forestry, Prince William County Schools, Virginia
Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, Prince William County
Watershed Management Branch, Prince William County Department of
Public Works Building and Grounds & Litter Crew! We also have
volunteers from the local community who bring their animals and take on
many other tasks. Students from Osbourn Park High School serve as
guides for the day and also do some of the program presentations. The
success of Farm Field Days is due to the incredible cooperation of these
many people and agencies.
Thanks also to the
Prince William Veterans Farm Club for the use of the Fairgrounds and who
help us out each day!
Thanks also to BB&T,
Chick-Fil-A on Liberia Avenue, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, Panera
Bread, and the Wild Bird Center in Lakeridge.
And for a real treat, Harris Teeter was on hand to serve ice
cream to students, teachers, and volunteers.
Thank you everyone!
