Adopt-A-Stream - Start a new group

AAS signThank you for your interest in starting a new Adopt-A-Stream group. We will assist you in forming a successful program for your community.

How Do I Get Started?

Prince William Soil and Water Conservation District can help individuals or groups find a stream or you can select a stream on your property.

To start your own group you must be at least 18 years of age and you must complete the following steps.

Step 1: Please read the Adopt A Stream Manual and agree to comply.

Step 2: Choose a stream to clean (Stream Cleanup Site Map). You may clean a stream on your property or on public property. Please contact the PWSWCD AAS Coordinator to double check if the stream is available for adoption. You may be able to choose a stream on private property if you are able to get written permission from the owners. Please have the property owners complete the Permission to Enter Private Property Form.

Step 3: Once you have chosen a stream and cleared it through the PWSWCD AAS Coordinator, go to the DCR Adopt A Stream webpage and complete the Application for Designation and Agreement Form. Print and sign the form, then fax, scan and email, or mail to DCR (information is on the bottom of the form.) If you need help with this step please contact PWSWCD AAS Coordinator or call 571.379.7514.

Step 4: Go to our Established Group Procedures and follow the steps.
