In 2023, the Adopt-A-Stream/Pond/River Program registered 61 cleanup events, with over 1,260 volunteers. Over 1,300 litter bags, and 50 tires among other materials were collected. All these cleanup events intercepted a total of over 26,500 pounds of debris from reaching Chesapeake Bay. These volunteers recorded over 3,000 hours of volunteer time, saving the County over $98,291.44 in taxpayers' money (independentsector.org). These events covered a total of over 61 miles of waterways out of the 1,100 miles of streams noted in Prince William County.
